For great food cooked with passion, the Italian restaurants in La Manga offer a superb range of dishes to suit all tastes both young and old, from rustic pizzas to decadent seafood delights. It's unfortunate that to some, Italian food comprises spaghetti bolognese, cabonara and pizza that just about anyone can whip up at home and therefore have never eaten in an authentic Italian restaurant. To be honest I too need to hold my hand up to this total misconception, having never visited an Italian restaurant until my late 20's when I eventually did as part of a work group. Boy did I kick myself for all those years missing out on true Italian cuisine 🙂
Via Romana – Well worth the short drive from the La Manga Strip, Via Romana is located on Calle Mayor in Los Belones and, testament to their delicious food, is always busy. Rich soups and stews bursting with flavour, char-grilled steaks cooked to perfection, an excellent choice of pasta dishes, and of course pizzas fresh from the oven are served with typical Italian flair.
Gran Torino – This unpretentious eatery offers relaxed dining on their terrace and a vibrant atmosphere inside where the herby, garlicy aromas coming from the kitchen will have you tucking in to the delicious homemade bread well before your starter has arrived. If you arrive with a big appetite, the calzone pizza is huge and groaning with fillings, and for seafood lovers the spaghetti frutti di mar comes with a generous portion of fresh seafood. Gran Torino is located on Calle Pez Guitarra in Cabo de Palos.
Pizzeria Restaurante Di Mare – Located on Calle Cornisa del Estacio in the popular Tomás Maestre Marina, don't let the word pizzeria fool you as this restaurant offer so much more than just pizza. Their lovely terrace offers views over the marina and their menu includes favourites such as lamb that falls off the bone, juicy steaks, fresh fish and seafood, and a great choice of pasta and pizza. Enjoyed with a bottle of house wine, this place is hard to beat.
Little Sicily – This is one of the Italian restaurants in La Manga that is perfect for a romantic dinner for two. Located on Calle Rio Aranguin in the Mar Menor town of Los Alcazares, this gem is well worth the drive and with it's location one street away from the popular Av. Río Nalón with it's British and Irish bars, is a great place to visit if you are planning a night on the town. The elegant decor sets the scene for the food to come which is expertly presented and includes a choice of delicious breads. A highlight of Little Sicily are the king prawns and steaks.
