As it's officially their favourite food, British visitors will be pleased to know there is a good selection of Indian restaurants in La Manga and the neighbouring area of Mar Menor. Such is the appeal of spicy Indian cuisine, for some people whether they are visiting the beaches of Brighton or the mountains of Katmandu, one of the first things they do is search for an Indian restaurant. They do say that for some, chilli can be just as addictive as chocolate but authentic Indian cuisine is not just about the spiciness but more about the wonderfully diverse herbs and ingredients that make a truly good curry, be it mild butter chicken or fiery vindaloo.
Gurkha Durbar Restaurant – With so many to choose from, it's not often you have to book a restaurant in Spain but Gurkha Durbar is one of the Indian restaurants in la Manga where booking is highly advisable. Located on Calle Vienna in the popular Mar Menor town of Los Alcazares, this place is certainly worth the drive and receives rave reviews for both its friendly service and delicious cuisine which, if not on the menu, the chef will endeavour to prepare it.
Bollywood Bar & Restaurant – A bit closer to home on Calle Contramaestre Casado just off the main drag in Los Belones, a warm Manchurian (not the chefs :)) welcome awaits in this popular eatery. Here it's all about the flavours rather than the spiciness so if you want it hot be sure to ask when ordering. Their extensive menu includes delicious tandoori, a good choice of vegetarian options and early bird menu specials including a bottle of house wine.
Hindustani Roti – With its location on the main ‘Strip' of Los Alcazares, Av. Río Nalón, this is a great place to visit either before or after a night on the town. The restaurant boasts lovely decor and outdoor terrace seating, and no matter how big a group you arrive with the friendly and efficient staff will always endeavour to seat everyone as quickly and comfortably as possible. Their freshly cooked rotis and naans are wonderful and the sauces thick and rich which is usually a sign of a good curry. Diners on the go can ask for their meal to take away.
